Partner – Sevalaya
Sevalaya is a registered charitable Trust established in 1988, with activities all over Tamil Nadu. Sevalaya draws its inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and the patriotic Poet Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyar and their philosophies. Their main areas of focus are Education, Rural Development and Homes.
Some of their major programs include:
Organic Farming, Gaushala (a cow shelter for milk production as well as for protection of cows that have outlived their utility), Medical Center and camps, and Solar Power Harvesting.
Sevalaya runs two homes for orphans, poor and destitute children. At present these homes shelter about 200 children and provide food, shelter, and education. Children are taken care of until they become independent and self-reliant. Sevalaya also runs an Old Age Home for destitute and poor senior citizens, who get a chance to live productive lives.
Sevalaya operates schools for poor children from neighboring villages. The children are provided with quality education completely free of cost.
Sevalaya runs eight Community Colleges, offering 10 trades; these provide a ray of hope for rural youth (mostly aged 18-25) who otherwise would not have had access to higher education. As well as practical training, beneficiaries are also taught soft skills, such as interview etiquette and functional English, and are placed in jobs at the end of the course. Almost 3000 young adults have graduated from Sevalaya’s community colleges.
