FAQ
Why give to A Future for Every Child?
At any given time, there are over 100,000 children and youth in orphanages in India who face aging out at 18, with no ability to support themselves. We have the opportunity to give them the means to build a life of economic stability, which will not just impact them, but also their future generations.
Are you an IRS-approved Nonprofit?
We are a IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our Federal Tax ID is 82-4259548.
What does it cost to train a youth for economic self-sufficiency?
The estimated average cost is $800 per child and includes a program of career counseling, vocational training, job placement and mentoring.
How are you helping these youth during COVID?
We are providing the young adults with
- Additional support for housing and other essentials for youth at risk
- Smartphone and upgraded Internet to continue education during shutdown
Who is CSA and why are you working with them?
Catalysts for Social Action is AFEC’s non-profit partner in India and has a 17-year track record of successfully working to improve Child Care Institutions (Indian government terminology for orphanages). Our partnership with CSA means we have a trusted and experienced partner on the ground in India, existing infrastructure to quickly provide services, and a vehicle for scaling the number of youth supported.
What is the overhead for AFEC and CSA? How much of my donation goes to directly support the youth?
The AFEC overhead is 0% – our costs are covered by a separate source of funds. All donations go to CSA to provide youth services.
63% – Direct costs/youth (Tuition, lodging, food)
24% – Salaries and travel for Life Coaches (CSA Staff). 1 Coach – 12 youth
13% – CSA Overhead
How are you measuring success and outcomes?
We define a successful outcome to be “A Care Leaver who is in steady employment for 2 years”
We track a number of metrics to ensure we maximize successful outcomes:
- Number of children completed career counseling
- Number of children completed training
- Number of children placed in jobs
- Number of children in jobs after 2 years
- Highest, lowest and average salaries
- Ratio of girls to boys
- Average cost per child
In addition to these, we will receive detailed reports on AFEC youth which will be shared with donors on a regular basis.
How much control does AFEC have over the grants given to CSA?
AFEC has full control of the grants including the ability to withdraw from the partnership if milestones are not met. AFEC will receive bi-annual reports on exact expenditures, and make site visits as warranted.
